SUBDELTA was founded right after the release of the P1lot One, a unique non-profit watch project that started in 2014. This stunning grade 5 titanium “lefty” pilot’s watch with a manual-wound ETA/Unitas 6498-1 was made exclusively by and for members of Horlogeforum.nl, the largest Dutch watch forum. The watch is completely sold out in just one week. In May 2015, we handed the 52 watches over to their new owners at Teuge International Airport.

P1lot One is not SUBDELTA… entirely…

Due to its commercial intentions, SUBDELTA is not the same as the project team of the P1lot One, though some of its team members are participating in SUBDELTA.

Code name: Horlogeforum.nl 2015 Limited Edition.
Design, projec lead & communication: Teun van Heerebeek.
Engineering & construction: Jan Binnendijk of DumeT Watches.
Strap: Remie Beijer of 7T2straps.com.
Tool-roll: Rob Haaring.
Planning, buying, sales & communication: Hans de Ree (that’s me!).

Handmade parts

Of course, the P1lot One needed a handmade leather strap and Remie Beijer of 7T2Straps.com did a hell of a job with it. The straps were formed of 50+ NOS leather Swiss belts. Each strap was custommade to size and 3 initials were stamped in the “keeper”. Together with a “passport”, NATO strap, strap tool and some other parts, the watch was presented in a leather watch roll, handbuilt by team member Rob Haaring.

Record-breaking sales

In just one week, a Horlogeforum.nl limited edition record of 52 P1lot One watches were sold in 2014. Sometimes (but rarely) a copy comes for sale here.

The watches were handed over to the buyers on Teuge International Airport in March 2015. This location perfectly complemented the look and feel of the project. Please read the article on FratelloWatches.com.

In the P1lot One team, Hans de Ree (1973) was responsible for planning, buying, sales and communication and wanted to pursue his horological dream. He strongly felt that there’s more, where that came from. Another non-profit watch project would be impossible, so he founded SUBDELTA handbuilt Dutch watches. Some of the former team members of the P1lot One are participating in or supplying to SUBDELTA. Every year, SUBDELTA will release a new Limited Edition via crowdfunding.
